On October 24, the European Commission, PPMI and TNO conducted the workshop on technology challenges and solutions for Web 4.0 and virtual worlds. The workshop convened key stakeholders from diverse sectors and backgrounds worldwide including public sector, academia, technical community, private sector, civil society and other backgrounds. Workshop participants connected from a total of 19 countries, including Japan, Brazil, Croatia, and Egypt.
During the workshop, participants engaged in discussions addressing the technological obstacles and innovative solutions impacting the future of virtual worlds and shared important insights for tackling these challenges. The workshop was led by Barbora Kudzmanaitė, Ming Cheng, Tom Koninck, and Simon Gunkel.

The workshop took place in the context of the pilot project exploring the future governance of Web 4.0 and virtual worlds led by PPMI (part of the Verian group) in collaboration with TNO for DG CNECT. The project seeks to evaluate key advancements in internet technologies relevant to Web 4.0 and virtual worlds, while also laying the foundation for a global dialogue on various aspects of their governance.
