On October 22, the European Commission, PPMI (part of the Verian Group) and TNO co-hosted the workshop on principles for virtual worlds and Web 4.0 governance. The workshop brought a range of stakeholders, including government representatives, academia, the technical community, private companies, and civil society representatives. Workshop participants connected from across the globe, representing a total of 25 countries, including France, Japan, Maldives, Burkina Faso, United States, Bulgaria, and Turkey.
During the workshop, participants first explored the main principles guiding virtual worlds and Web 4.0 governance from different perspectives. Participants were then invited to reflect on the remaining needs and unresolved questions in achieving the identified principles. The workshop was facilitated by Barbora Kudzmanaite, Rūta Gabalina, Egidijus Barcevičius, and Aleksandra Wojtowicz.
We thank all the participants who joined us on the day of the event!
The session slides together with the results of the collaborative sessions are available for download below.
The workshop took place in the context of the pilot project exploring the future governance of Web 4.0 and virtual worlds led by PPMI (part of the Verian group) in collaboration with TNO for DG CNECT. The project seeks to evaluate key advancements in internet technologies relevant to Web 4.0 and virtual worlds, while also laying the foundation for a global dialogue on various aspects of their governance.
